A mixed use scheme on the river front in Charlton.
The scheme forms part of an overall masterplan area, the brief for which is set out in a Greenwich SPD as follows:
“Charlton Riverside is set to become a mixed-use quarter, characterized by medium-rise housing and a significant proportion of family homes. The site’s industrial heritage will shape a series of new neighbourhoods, with a network of streets and open spaces reflecting the historical network of paths and boundaries. New industrial technology will guide the area’s future, integrating innovative and creative employment uses into the new development. There will be new schools and facilities, and transport routes will encourage public transport, walking and cycling. Improvements to encourage public transport, walking and cycling. Improvements to development with the rest of Charlton.”
The scheme has been designed as three linear blocks stretching back from the river with strong, landscaped public links between the blocks. At ground floor the commercial space opening onto the Thames Path is intended to be a restaurant and the commercial space along Herringham Road provides workspaces.
The layout seeks to avoid single aspect north facing apartments and to maximise river views for apartments
